Misery

Misery, released on October 23rd, 2025 for PC, is a post-apocalyptic rogue-lite horror experience inspired by the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. Developed by Platypus Entertainment, the game drops players into a haunting wasteland where survival depends on cigarettes and vodka.

A Promising Start for Platypus Entertainment

Based on its Steam listing, Misery is the first official release from Platypus Entertainment. However, a few smaller projects can be found on their itch.io page, hinting that the studio has been experimenting and refining its craft before this debut. Outside of that, not much is publicly known about the team aside from their social media presence.

The World of Misery

In Misery, you play as a private military contractor assigned to guard a research institute studying mysterious anomalies and artifacts. Conflict between rival factions eventually escalates, leading to a nuclear detonation that devastates the region — transforming it into the grim landscape you now fight to survive in.

Drawing clear inspiration from S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Misery mixes classic survival mechanics with its own unique twist: you can build and expand your bunker, a safe haven to endure the aftermath of war. The game also supports up to five players in co-op, allowing friends to brave the anomalies together.

Retro Style, Modern Edge

Visually, Misery looks like a game straight of out the early 2000s, rough around the edges, yet filled with charm. This gritty aesthetic fits perfectly with its tone and setting. In an era where most studios chase hyper-realism, Misery leans into a gritty feel older style feel, giving players a taste of that lo-fi tension we used to love.

A Rising Contender

As of writing, Misery currently sits at #12 on Steam’s New Release list and is on sale for a limited time to celebrate its launch. If you’re in the mood to sit around a flickering campfire with some friends, explore a irradiated hellscape and smoke a ciggy under a nuclear sky, Misery might just be the perfect game for you.
